Regardless of whether you work in a major corporation or a little firm, you and your colleagues undoubtedly have to cope with noisy and/or disruptive co-workers. How do you handle this ticklish situation? First, you have to decide just what you feel you can bring yourself to do about it. Here are several helpful suggestions for keeping your cool and maintaining relative peace and quiet in the workplace.

Noisy coworkers often don’t even realize that they are being noisy; some simply have habits that annoy others, others simply want to annoy or bother other people. The real key to stopping them is realizing why they are noisy, in other words what makes them tick.

One kind of person that you have to cope with is the one who is not aware that his or her behaviours are distracting others. Such a person usually thinks that noise in an office environment covers up his or her noise and any possible noise he or she makes cannot be noticed by others and others cannot understand he or she is doing that noise.

A really good example of this is “Mr. Sniffles”, you know the person sitting next to you during cold and flu season, who instead of blowing his nose thinks it is better to sit and sniffle all day long. These noisy coworkers make you want to invest in tissue companies. Maybe someone should just politely tell them the behavior is bothersome – or better yet, in the case of Mr. Sniffles, just offer them that tissue!

The second type is much harder to deal with; these are the people who want to be the center of attention. Often the person is trying to get noticed so that they can move up the ladder of success.

With this type of person there is no other way to handle but to try to talk to them. It has to be taken to the management if talking to them do not solve the problem as the person has to do his work. The loss in production that the company is facing due to this employee, the individual is not the only person who is concerned.

Every office, no matter how big or small, has to deal with Noisy Coworkers. What can be done about this? The answer truly rests in what you are prepared to do about it. Here are a few realistic pointers to help you maintain your sanity and keep a sense of calm in your office without you becoming a loser. First you will have to confront those who are causing Office Noise distractions but don’t realize that their habits are triggering a negative reaction. The loss in production that the company is facing due to noise may prompt to install Sound Masking devices.
