Process for ordering court records works in New Jersey

You need to pay check or money order to vital statistics. All personal checks are accepted here. Current fees information is available at the official website.

For birth records in New Jersey from 1848 onwards, you need to pay four dollars. All these records are limited and can be only issued to individuals showing tangible legal interest or immediate family members.

In case, you don’t know the exact date search would need an additional fee of one dollar. You also need to provide the name of child, place of birth, date of birth, father’s name, mother’s maiden name, name of hospital and your relationship with the individual. The reason of request should also be attached to the application.

Death records from May 1848, you need to pay four dollars from state office and ten dollars for the New Jersey archives. The records from June 1878 are kept in the state vital records office. Any additional copy of the same record will cost you about two dollars each. In case, you are unsure of the exact date, you can always request for a search for an additional fees of one dollars. You should however include the following information:

a) Name of individual

b) Place of death

c) Date of death

d) Your relationship with the individual

e) The reason for the request
