I am one of those people that like to make things myself. I have so many ‘do it yourself’ books that I barely have room to fit them anymore. I wanted very badly to build my fireplace, and decided I would do just that. After all, how hard can it be build your own fireplace? I would soon learn the hard way that it was, well, hard.
I tried reading up on it, only to learn that I didn’t know half of the terminology they used. What exactly is a 2×4, and who knows what mortar is? Well that wasn’t a big deal, as I harassed the guys at the local hardware store into explaining things to me.
However, I had a party within the next week and wanted the fireplace done. After all, I was reading a book called, “Build Your Own Fireplace in a Week.” Great. So I had dried mortal on my hardwood floors, stone pieces scattered all over the plaqce, and some kind of large box I had tried to build.
It was all sitting in the middle of my den floor, and I wasn’t even halfway done. I had to keep re-cutting the stones I was trying to use because I couldn’t get them to all fit together perfectly. This called for action! This is how I got my new fireplace. So, here is how I got my new fireplace!
I decided on the perfect fireplace I wanted and let them swipe my credit card. They came to my house and had it installed within three hours! If you want to build your own fireplace, good luck – if you want to keep your sanity, skip the building and buy it from professionals!
